An Overview Of Black Peacock LionFish

The black peacock lionfish, also known as Pterois Antennata, is a predatory and venomous fish living in the Pacific and Indian oceans.

This fish belongs to the Scorpaenidae family, which features popular fish like the emperor scorpion.

You can typically find the black peacock lionfish lurking around the coral reefs.

This fish loves using its venomous spices to kill and hunt down prey, including invertebrates and small fish species.

Besides being an excellent aquarium hunter, the black peacock lionfish possesses a stunning and strikingly beautiful appearance.

Their attractiveness comes from the long and robust fins mixed with shimmering black scales.

Although black peacock lionfish are venomous, they are still a favorite choice of many aquarium owners.

With a hardy nature and excellent adapting capacity, black peacock lionfish can make an excellent addition to your tank.

An Overview Of Black Peacock LionFish

Features Of The Black Peacock LionFish

The more you dwell on the features and characteristics of black peacock lionfish, the more you will fall in love with this fish pet.

Here are some noticed traits of the black peacock lionfish you should know.

Size

The size of the black peacock lionfish is not so large when compared with the other popular giant aquarium species.

An adult black lionfish can reach around 30 centimeters in length and one kilogram in weight.

Nevertheless, you should put mature peacock lionfish in a large aquarium tank. Their large body sizes require a lot of space to swim around and hide.

The fish’s elongated finds and long spines also contribute significantly to the fish’s overall length and size.

They also give the peacock lionfish a distinct and attractive body shape.

Appearance

As mentioned above, the elongated fins and spines of black peacock lionfish give them an eye-catching and stunning appearance.

These components are mixed with the shimmering scales for an even more attractive look.

The black peacock lionfish come in brown or dark-colored skins. You can easily notice the yellow to bright markings running across the fish’s body.

There are small pectoral fins located on the fish’s body sides, which feature long and thin shapes.

Meanwhile, the fish’s tail fin is significantly larger and looks similar to a fan.

Appearance

Diet

Due to their carnivorous nature, black peacock lionfish primarily feed on invertebrates and small fish.

The fish will capture these tiny prey using their elongated and venomous fins.

The fish love hunting in solitary in the wild to catch the small invertebrates, such as krill and brine shrimp.

Therefore, you can feed them live bloodworms and nutritious living food like brine shrimp.

If you cannot find live food, go for the frozen food sold in local pet fish stores.

The key to enhancing peacock lionfish’s growth is to diversify its diet with various nutrients.

Tank Mates

Since black peacock lionfish are venomous and predatory, they will feed on the small invertebrates and fish they encounter.

Therefore, you should not keep the peacock lionfish with any smaller species in one aquarium tank.

In addition, the venomous spines of the black lionfish can harm the other large fish swimming near it.

Therefore, I recommend you raise the black lionfish alone in a large aquarium tank.

If you want the fish to have more companions, consider some suitable tank mates like snappers, eels, groupers, or other lionfish.

Water Parameters

The peacock lionfish love hunting and hiding around the coral reefs in the wild.

Therefore, the ideal living conditions for black peacock lionfish are clear and warm water decorated with coral reefs and plants.

In addition, you should keep black peacock fish in a large aquarium tank (no less than 50 gallons of water) due to their large size.

It will ensure sufficient room and water for the fish to move around comfortably.

The ideal temperature range for peacock lionfish is between 25°C and 28°C.

You can also install more caves and small plants on the tank substrate to provide the fish with more hiding spots and higher comfort.
